YAS WATERWORLD, ABU DHABI, UAE

Last Christmas day, we visited IKEA in Yas Island and as we approached the island, we saw the nearly finished Yas Waterworld. We all got excited as this will be the first waterpark in Abu Dhabi (we usually go to Dubai where you could find such attractions). We agreed to go at one time after it opens to enjoy the waterpark.

Touted as “the best waterpark in the world”, the AED 900 million Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is finally opens to the public on 24 January 2013.

Set on 15 hectares and featuring a whopping 43 rides, slides and attractions the park features several world firsts, the biggest family area in the Middle East and the world’s longest and fastest tornado ride – sure to be hit with the capital’s thrill-seeking public.

As you walk through the traditional souk area (where you’ll find your lockers and fresh towels), the park’s delights are laid out before you in a colorful panorama. Whether you’re drawn towards the surfing beach, one of the colorful tornados and tubes, the park’s rollercoaster or simply a comfy sun lounger, every option is within reach. Worth noting for the summer months, all the park’s attractions are accessible via temperature-controlled shaded pathways.

It’s also worth taking a glance at the park map to make sure you don’t miss anything. The great thing about Waterworld, is that it’s been designed so that this is virtually impossible – if you simply walk around in a big circle, following the ‘Legend of the Lost Pearl’ you’ll spot nearly all of the park’s major attractions!

Also, watch out for Phase Two of the park, which promises an expanded family area and yet more rides and attractions – construction starts later this year.

General Admission:
Guests above 1.1 metres tall – AED 225
Children below 1.1 metres tall – AED 185

Premium Admission:
Guests above 1.1 metres tall – AED 325
Children under 1.1 metres tall – AED 265

Good to know:
  • Yas Waterworld contains FIVE one-of-a-kind rides that have never been seen before in a waterpark
  • Children aged six months to five years have three specifically dedicated areas with age-appropriate activities to pick from
  • The ‘Pearlmasters’ treasure hunt game and pearl dive show, are two attractions designed to reflect the Arabian custom of pearl diving
  • Schools can also get involved with the ‘Cool Schools’ Programme, which aims to teach students all about water safety, sustainability and team building amongst others
  • It is the first waterpark in the Middle East to be certified with a ‘green’ sustainability rating (Estimada One Pearl)
  • Women-only days are planned nearer to the summer – so watch this space!

We will definitely visit this park especilly now that it is almost summer. I will  share with you my personal experience.
