SHORT BIBLE REFLECTION : Proverbs 16:1-3

1 To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
2 All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

We can plan on just about anything; from things to do for today, what clothes to wear,  our career, our vacation trip, our family, our future, etc... - but we cannot expect that everything will go the way we plan it.  There will be circumstances that will hinder our plan or delay it.
Things that are happening around us are not in our hands.  God will allow these circumstances in order to teach us something. This may be for our spiritual growth, character building, relationship building etc… But this will depend on how we see it (either positive or negative) and on the way we reacted on the changes in our plans. As Proverbs 19:21 says, Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” We may be in a situation that we are not expecting or planning, but God has a purpose for everything. His thoughts are not our thoughts neither our ways His ways (Isaiah 55:8).
At the same time, God is looking on the intent of our hearts when we plan or desire something in the future. He knows the motive of our hearts and if it is not in line with His perfect plan, He will teach us something before we could actually achieve it or He will make us realize the consequences of our plans based on our motives.
In the end, commit whatever we do or plan to God, we will be assured of our victory, because we have the Almighty One who is always in control.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding," (Proverbs 3:5)
